Redford Brief History

As a charter township in Wayne County, the city had close to 50,000 people the last time the population was counted. Back in 1827, the town was originally called Bucklin. Since there were two post offices that had the same name, they had to rename the town with two distinct names. The town was then divided into Nankin and Pekin. It was Pekin that was divided again into Redford and Dearborn. Redford was originally given their name from the Indians who forded their way along the River Rouge. Rouge means red in French, which is why it was given the name it was.
